Launching The Apostrophe!
Mental Ideas is collaborating with the Hong Kong Writers Circle on the production and publication of a quarterly literary magazine The Apostrophe.
Every quarter, the five points of the bauhinia flower – Hong Kong’s emblem – is paralleled by five original stories of up to 10,000 words by writers with a connection to Hong Kong. This may take the form of novel excerpts, poetry, non-fiction, hybrid, or other formats. The five chosen stories are matched to five pieces of original artwork that illustrate the stories in an abstract or whimsical way and a standalone piece of cover art that matches the theme.
You don’t need to be a member of the Hong Kong Writers Circle to submit your writing. However, if a written piece is accepted, the author must be a HKWC member before it is published. Artists and photographers may submit multiple artworks via Mental Ideas from anywhere in the world! There are no limits on geography, the number of submissions and you do not have to be a member to submit. Please take a moment to view the sub guidelines and don’t forget to subscribe! The magazine accepts previously published work but you MUST own the rights to your work or obtain permission from the original publisher.
The Hong Kong Writers Circle published the inaugural issue of its new literary magazine The Apostrophe 1 June 2023. Congratulations to Mental Ideas artists Charles Tang, Ricky Sadiosa and cover artist Jade Bryant on being featured!
