Too Good to Eat – 3D Jelly Art by Siamy Tan!

Mental Ideas has been going wobbly for 3D Jelly Art enthusiast Siamy Tan‘s incredible jelly cakes! The level of artistry in her lifelike flower creations is mind-blowing! Then, once you’ve admired them, you can eat them!!!

Mental Ideas has been spreading the word (not that she needed our help!) about Siamy’s talents and charitable endeavours cooking meals for the homeless after she reached out to our Home Kong Kitchen initiative (which recently celebrated its second birthday!!) to see if we’d be interested in helping her arrange workshops and charity events in Hong Kong. (Of course!) She’s donating a % of profits from these events to homeless, migrant and refugee charities, as well as making and donating hundreds of jelly cakes to distribute to the homeless, migrants and refugees!

Helping the less fortunate is already in Siamy’s DNA. Last year, Siamy and her Hong Kong Chinese hubby cooked a whopping 60,000 meals for distribution to communities hit hardest by the 2 years of lockdown in her native Malaysia! She now wants to extend her artistic and charitable orbit to Hong Kong and is currently over here on a trip!  Having connected her to the brilliant Grassroots Future, they will be delivering a huge batch of her jelly cakes to our friends at Refugee Union this Tuesday! Then, on Thursday, we will be accompanying her to deliver more jelly cakes for the homeless at ImpactHK and the wonderful migrant women of Bethune House.

Siamy’s inspiring story was published by the South China Morning Post July 21. With mounting interest in her 3D Jelly Art and classes, Siamy intends to spend more time in Hong Kong in 2023 and will be offering workshops and the opportunity for attendees and volunteers to sample her amazing cakes!
